Enterprise Research Centre
Turning business research into real-world impact
Having BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme broadcast live from your conference is something huge organisations might hope for.
But this is what Journalista secured for the Enterprise Resarch Council (ERC), a relatively small partnership of researchers from some of the UK’s leading business schools.
ERC aimed to be seen as something akin to the Institute for Fiscal Studies for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). After working with Journalista to shape its appeal to the media, its State of Small Business conference was also attended by senior journalists from the Economist, Financial Times and Sunday Times.
This kind of influential coverage was a key step on ERC’s path to becoming recognised as a source of robust and rigorous evidence on what drives SME success.
ERC’s research can be complex and Journalista used its team’s ability to analyse and pull apart data-driven reports before presenting them to target media in ready-to-use form.
Extensive use of easily-understandable infographics, maps, and memorable soundbites has resulted in widespread national coverage as well as press in key regional publications.
Since working with Journalista, ERC has reached around 35 million readers, viewers, and listeners, secured £1.8m of public funding for research, and its number of Twitter followers has risen by 64 per cent.
ERC Director, Stephen Roper, said: “The PR undertaken by Journalista was pivotal in helping the Enterprise Research Centre achieve our ambition of being the ‘go to’ place for robust independent evidence on small and medium size businesses. Without Journalista’s support we would have had much less impact.”
